About Research for Sex Work

Background

Research for Sex Work is an annual journal dedicated to the topic of research on sex work. It aims to provide a platform for the exchange of ideas, experiences, observations and research results with regards to sex work and HIV prevention in the broader framework of health and human rights. Although the title suggests otherwise, Research for Sex Work is not an academic journal. Readers and authors are from sex workers (support) organisations, HIV prevention projects, local and international NGOs, universities, research institutes, etc.

The first seven issues of Research for Sex Work were published by the Health Care and Culture section of VUMC in the Netherlands with financial support from Hivos. Since then, Research for Sex Work has been published by the Network of Sex Work Projects (NSWP) in collaboration with Ivan Wolffers of VUMC and Nel van Beelen, the former editor-in-chief. NSWP members Women's Network for Unity and Melissa Ditmore will produce the next issue on behalf of the NSWP. Other editors include Jayne Arnott (SWEAT), Laura Agustin, Licia Brussa (TAMPEP), Cheryl Overs, Meena Sesshu (VAMP), sex worker organizations Scarlet Alliance and Zi Teng and Ivan Wolffers.
